Two Fatalities Reported in Jeep Roll-over Accident near Ocklawaha

By / 0 Comments /

Tragically, both the driver, Michael Christopher, 49, of Ocala, and his passenger, Alicia Boyer, 25, of Summerfield, suffered fatal injuries, when their 2000 Jeep Wrangler overturned in an early morning auto accident occurring on February 9, 2014.

According to FHP, the rollover accident occurred when Christopher apparently lost control of the Jeep while traveling along County Road 464C, just east of SE 99th Place, between Blue Sink and Lake Deon. Officials say the vehicle then struck a mail box and a small tree, causing the Jeep to roll repeatedly. As the Jeep continued to roll, the driver’s side collided with multiple trees.

Sadly, the force of the rollover collision was too much for the seat-belted driver and non-seat-belted passenger, who both immediately succumbed to their injuries, and were pronounced dead at the accident scene. The Attorneys of the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. sends our heartfelt condolences to the family members and loved ones of both victims to this tragedy, as the residents of our community mourn these unfortunate deaths.

While nothing can ever replace the loss of a loved one, for many, comfort can be found in knowing that some good came from the incident—whether it be that valuable knowledge was gained, or that a future accident, injury or fatality was prevented. As Accident & Injury attorneys, the factual circumstance of the accident, as reported by FHP compels us to reflect upon several considerations.

One consideration, is that the vehicle involved, a Jeep Wrangler, rolled multiple times following the initial impacts. Roll-overs are notorious for causing serious injury or fatality. Ironically, the vehicle involved presumably had a roll-bar, as are standard on all Jeep Wranglers. The Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. hopes this tragedy serves as a reminder to motorists that travel in a vehicle equipped with a roll-bar, that they are not invincible to injury or fatality in the event of a roll-over collision.

Perhaps the most crucial consideration is that accident involved TWO fatalities. This accident varies greatly from accidents involving surviving victims, because the deceased is no longer capable of seeking compensation for damages on their own behalf. Fortunately, our laws recognize this and have provided the family members of deceased, with the remedial measure of seeking compensation for losses through a wrongful death action.
