Three Injured Following Putnam County Auto Crash

By / 0 Comments /

The Automobile Collision Attorneys of the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. take note of a Putnam County accident in which three victims sustained injury. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 35-year-old David Lloyd Price was traveling northbound on U.S. 17 in a 1996 Ford Mustang. Also in Price’s vehicle was 33-year-old passenger Tami Jo Price, of Keystone Heights. At this same time, 89-year-old Wilma Peters Kuhn, of Crescent City was at a stop sign on Theater Road, facing westbound, preparing to cross the intersection in a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus.

As Price approached the Theater Road intersection, Kuhn pulled directly into Price’s pathway, thereby causing a collision between the two vehicles. Authorities say that the driver of the Mustang, who was unable to stop in time, struck the driver’s side of Kuhn’s vehicle.

As a result of the accident, David Lloyd Price sustained minor injuries. Sadly, however, his passenger, Tami Jo Price suffered critical injuries, and had to be transported to UF Health Jacksonville. Kuhn, the negligent motorist said to be responsible for causing the collision, was also seriously injured in the crash. Kuhn was transported to Putnam County Medical Center.

As Accident & Injury Attorneys, this incident leads us to consider whether Kuhn’s age was a contributing factor in the collision. As more and more drivers, over the age of 65, occupy our roadways, Alba & Yochim takes note of the increase in accidents caused by older drivers. This increase has prompted initiatives such as the National Safety Council’s implementation of an improved Driver Safety Course in 2014 targeted specifically at older drivers.

Another important consideration in this accident was seatbelt use. Although both drivers in the accident were wearing their seatbelts, authorities say that Price’s critically injured passenger was not. Studies have shown a direct correlation between seat-belt use, and the prevention of catastrophic injury or fatality.

Although investigation into the incident between Kuhn and Price is ongoing, authorities say that charges are pending. As the victims are recovering from their injuries, the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. send our well-wishes to the Kuhn and Price family. We also hope that the victims of this incident take the steps necessary to protect their legal interests, by discussing the matter with a personal injury attorney experienced in handling auto accident cases.
