Several Injured in Multiple Vehicle Crash on I-75

By / 0 Comments /

Motorists are reminded, once again, of the dangers of traveling along I-75 following a multiple vehicle crash Friday evening in Columbia County.

The accident occurred in a series of chain reaction events, initiated by a rear-end collision between two vehicles traveling northbound, in the outside lanes, on I-75, near the State Road 47 exit. According to FHP, Daniel Sykes, Jr., 33, of Lake City, struck the rear-end of a vehicle being operated by Tanglor Ballard, 44, of Tampa.

As a result of the initial collision, Ballard’s vehicle rotated clockwise, and was subsequently struck by the drivers of two additional vehicles traveling in the middle and inside lanes, Patricia Rennie, 59, of Shalimar, and Marquita Cheney, 36, of Lake City. Thereafter, a fourth collision occurred when Ballard’s vehicle rotated back to the middle lane and was struck by a tractor trailer.

Amongst the injured, were Ballard’s 4-year old passenger, Benard Williams, and Cheney’s 17 year old passenger, Kaila Cheney, who were both transported to UF Health Shands Hospital with serious injuries. In addition, Ballard and two passengers were also taken to Shands with minor injuries.

While this series of accidents certainly serves as a reminder of the dangers of traveling along Florida’s busy highways, it also serves as an example of the distinct nature of each and every auto collision. In particular, multiple vehicle collisions like the one discussed here, often involve highly complex issues and demand careful assessment by an experienced attorney. Consequently, the benefits of having an attorney to protect your legal rights can make a profound difference in terms of establishing liability, as well as the victim’s ultimate recovery of financial compensation.
