Ocala Woman Charged with DUI Following Three-Vehicle Crash

By / 0 Comments /

The Auto Accident Attorneys of the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. take note of an Ocala Collision involving an intoxicated driver that sent six victims to the hospital. The accident occurred on March 22, 2014, at approximately 7:30 p.m., at the intersection of County Road 475B and County Road 475.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Stephanie Vera, 23, of Ocala, was stopped at a stop sign near the intersection in a 2009 Ford E100. At this same time, Carol Ramharrack, 53, of Ocala, was driving eastbound on C.R. 475B in a 2008 Lincoln Navigator. Ramharrack, who was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, apparently failed to slow down as she approached the stop sign and violently struck the rear-end of Vera’s stationary vehicle.

As a result of the collision, Vera’s vehicle was pushed into the intersection, where the victim was then struck by a 1994 Ford truck being operated by Michael Morris, 41, of Ocala. Authorities say that Morris, who was headed south on C.R. 475, collided with the driver’s side of Vera’s car, causing her vehicle to travel across the roadway and onto a grassy shoulder.

Vera, as well as her three passengers, 24-year-old Justine Guillen, 29-year-old Robin Rivera, and 19-year-old Samantha Ortiz, all from Ocala, were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Trauma Center, with varying degrees of injury. Guillen and Rivera were treated and later discharged. The status of Vera and Ortiz was unknown as of Sunday, however it is suspected that they suffered catastrophic injuries.  Morris, who sustained injury as well, was also transported to Ocala Regional Medical Trauma Center. He was later released following treatment for his injuries.

Ramharrack, reportedly responsible for the cause of this multiple-vehicle collision, was transported to Munroe Regional Medical Trauma Center, and later discharged. Authorities subsequently arrested Ramharrack on charges of driving under the influence, including three counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, and five counts of DUI with property damage. The accused was released from Marion County Jail after posting a $7,000 bond.

Our thoughts remain with the accident victims of this unfortunate incident, which was set into motion by the needless and unlawful actions of a motorist accused of driving under the influence. As Accident & Injury Lawyers, we understand that negligent drivers cause auto collisions each day. However, when negligence and unlawful conduct combine, such as where a drunk driver causes injury to multiple victims, we find this type of accident particularly disturbing. We believe that drunk drivers should be held accountable for their actions to the fullest extent possible—both criminally and civilly.

If you or a loved one were injured after being struck by a drunk driver, it is important to discuss the matter with an attorney as soon as possible following the accident. Our Gainesville Auto Collision Attorneys of the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. want to alleviate your concerns by explaining your legal rights and options in a free consultation, so that you victim can focus on recovering from your injuries.
