More Bike Collisions: Gainesville Man Dies after Struck by Vehicle

By / 0 Comments /

Does it seem like you are reading more and more about local bicycle accidents in the Gainesville, Florida area?  For instance, a  Gainesville man died Saturday.  He was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on North Main Street at about 9:10 a.m. when he left the bike lane, veered into the street and was hit from behind by a vehicle according to a Gainesville Police Department spokesperson.

The man’s death marks the first bicycling death in Alachua County in 2012.  While it appears that in this instance it may have been his own fault, it serves to highlight the problem with bikes and cars sharing the same roads.  Last year, a man riding a bike was killed after he was hit by a driver distracted by his cellphone near Newberry.  Nationally, around 650 cyclists have died in collisions with automobiles in the years from 2000 to 2004.  Also, nearly 44,000 cyclists have died in traffic crashes in the United States since 1932.

If you or a loved one have been injured in a collision while biking you need legal representation.  Call our experienced bike accident attorneys at the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. to  get the compensation you deserve.
