Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash

By / 0 Comments /

A man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident near Gainesville Saturday night. Authorities say the incident occurred after the man lost control of his motorcycle, and was subsequently ejected from it.  The man was taken to Shands at the University of Florida following the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

In 2008, 5,290 motorcycle riders were killed on america’s roads, and 96,000 injured.  Motorcycle helmets have been shown to save the lives of motorcyclists and prevent serious brain injuries.

NHTSA estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,829 motorcyclists in 2008.  If all motorcyclists had worn helmets, an additional 823 lives could have been saved. (NHTSA, 2009). The short and simple truth is that helmets save lives, and should be utilized at all times while driving or riding as a passenger, whether on a motorcycle, scooter, or moped.
