Live Oak Woman Dies in Collision between SUV and Log Truck

By / 0 Comments /

Investigation continues following a fatal  accident in Suwannee County early Wednesday morning. According to FHP, 42-year-old Tracy Deas, of Live Oak, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 90 in a 2004 GMC Yukon, when a log truck being driven by 42-year old Eliecer Labrada, of Ocala, that was traveling northbound on County Road 137, attempted to make a right turn onto U.S. 90, and the two vehicles collided. Deas was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital, but tragically died from her injuries several hours later. The operator of the log truck, Labrada, was not injured in the collision.

The Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. take note of how this tragic accident demonstrates the dangers that motorists face while traveling along roadways that are shared with tractor-trailers and similar trucks. Such dangers can be realized simply by considering three factors—size, weight, and force.Tractor trailers are large, heavy, and capable of causing significant destruction. A fourth factor—the truck’s cargo—presents additional dangers to motorists. When these factors combine in a collision between a truck and an automobile, the results can be devastating, as was the case with Deas.

The potential for serious injury or fatality in trucking collisions is further demonstrated by the fact that Deas was driving a GMC Yukon, which can be considered both a type of truck and/or moderate to full size SUV. Despite the fairly large vehicle being operated by Deas herself, it was simply no match when put up against a large commercial vehicle.

If you sustained injury or a loved on suffered a fatality in a trucking collision, you may be entitled to compensation for your injury or loss. It is important to remember that both trucking collision and wrongful death actions can be highly complex, and therefore when selecting an attorney, careful attention should be placed on ensuring that your lawyer has prior experience handling a wide array of personal injury matters.

Regardless as to whether a truck crash results in fatality, such collisions often involve unique evidentiary issues, and preservation of evidence can be critical to recovery. In addition, commercial truck-related accidents are commonly associated with matters regarding employer negligence, such as negligent hiring or negligent supervision.
