Announcing Karen Yochim’s elevation to partner and change of firm name to Alba & Yochim P.A. : Firm Will Encourage Post-Divorce Parental Communication to Help Children Cope

By / 0 Comments /

Karen S. Yochim, who started with Alba & Dubose in 2013, is the law firm’s new partner as the practice becomes the Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. She has more than 10 years of experience in family law, probate law and estate planning.

“Karen’s legal expertise and dedication to clients is an overwhelming asset to the firm,” said founding partner Gilbert J. Alba. “Since joining the firm as a probate and family law attorney, Karen has become a valuable component of our professional practice. It’s a pleasure welcoming her as a partner and I know she will continue to excel as a legal professional in our community.”

Yochim pursued a career path to help families through the legal system, attending and graduating from the University of Florida’s Frederic G. Levin College of Law in 2003, the same year she was admitted to the Florida Bar. Yochim practiced as an associate for a North Central Florida-based firm for more than six years before becoming partner in a firm she helped to establish.

The Law Office of Alba & Yochim P.A. will continue to focus on family law and personal injury with an ethical, client-centered but results driven approach. For family law, the firm plans to place greater emphasis on expert referrals to help families gain important skills, such as increased post-divorce parental communication to assist children in coping with often difficult family transition issues. In addition to handling the necessary aspects of divorce, the firm views its role as an opportunity to facilitate parental understanding of children’s needs as a priority during the process.

“It’s enlightening for a law firm to look at the issues involved in divorce and make a concerted effort to educate parents about resources that will help adults focus on the well-being of children, which can get lost in the animosity of divorce,” said Thomas N. Dikel, Ph.D., a Gainesville-based developmental psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist . “The manner in which parents handle these sensitive issues with their kids can have a profound impact on the children for years to come. Having worked with Karen both in consulting and opposing roles, I know that she will continue her focus on helping her clients concentrate on the well-being of their children during divorce.”

The firm offers J. Mark Dubose, Jr., who made tremendous contributions to the firm’s growth, best wishes in the next phase of his professional life.
